Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary according to St. Louis Marie de Montfort

On Wednesday, I am starting my yearly:

Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary
according to St. Louis Marie de Montfort

Please feel free to join me.  I will be posting the days prayers in their totality, so all you have to do is take the time (about 10 minutes) to read the prayers and reflect on them.  This consecration is a superb way to find, plant, root, and nurture to a full harvest of Jesus’ graces through the love and appreciation of His (and our) Blessed Mother.

Today I am sharing preliminary information about Saint Louis Marie de Monfort’s Consecration:

“Total Consecration” is a gift of our entire “selves” to Jesus through Mary, wherein we surrender ourselves to Jesus through Mary.  The preparation for this very important act is a series of spiritual exercises that goes for 33 consecutive days, with each day representing one year in the life of Jesus.

The enclosed booklets are designed to guide you through the 33 days, and are all you need (other than a rosary and proper attitude).  There are six suggested time periods through the year for doing this 33-day preparation, each ending on (the 34th day) a Feast of Our Lady, on which day you make your Consecration:

Whichever preparation you do, there are four parts, and can be done privately at home:

1. The 12 preliminary days is the turning away from the Spirit of the World, detaching yourself as much as possible from the world and from sin.

2. The 1st week is the Knowledge of Self, understanding ourselves better, emptying ourselves of self to open the way for the coming of Jesus and Mary.

3. The 2nd week is the Knowledge of Mary, understanding her role in our spiritual life and sanctification, and that Mary is the most effective means by which to come to Jesus.

4. The 3rd week is the Knowledge of Jesus, recognizing that He is our Last End and Supreme Lord, and learning how to imitate His virtues and perfections.

We make the Act of Consecration the day following the 33 days of preparation.  Before making the Act of Consecration, we should go to confession.  On the Consecration day we should go to Mass and Holy Communion, after which we can recite and sign the Act of Consecration given near the end of your consecration book.  For a plenary indulgence, you must complete preparation, go to Mass and Holy Communion on Consecration Day, Pray for the Holy Father’s intentions, and recite the Act of Consecration.

Even those who have already done the Consecration before are encouraged to do an annual renewal of it at this time, and join in Spirit with everyone else around the world who is also doing this at the same time.
